Central Kitchen Manager - Food Service

Hours: 8 hours per day
Rate: $17.81 per hour
FLSA Status: Non-exempt (Classified)
Contract Status: Regular/Probationary
Start Date: August 27, 2020
Calendar: 190 day

Purpose:    Manage institutional food service program.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manages an institutional food service program that serves multiple schools and districts in a cost-effective and efficient manner that encourages patronage.
  • Effectively work with and respond to people from diverse cultures or backgrounds.
  • Provides effective training to students in institutional food preparation in accord with the standards of the district's instructional program.
  • Provides food service to non-profit and public institutional customers in accord with district standards and in a manner that attracts and retains customers.
  • Assists with development and implementation of building/program budgets in accordance with standards set by district policy and the law.
  • Ensures that the district food service program operates in accord with federal, state, and district standards and procedures.
  • Maintains, stores, and retrieves information in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner using standard office systems, equipment and software.
  • Leads the work of others, as assigned, in a manner that promotes team development and effective work.
  • Supervises students outside the classroom, as assigned, to support the district's discipline and instructional programs.
  • Provides standard first aid, as defined by the American Red Cross, in a competent and compassionate manner.
  • Carries out the district emergency response plan in a competent and compassionate manner.
  • Provides other related services as assigned.
  • Assist guidance, pupil services staff or building administration, as needed.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Ability to design and manage all phases of a large-scale, institutional food service program in a cost-effective manner.
  • Ability to attract and retain institutional customers for the food service program.
  • Knowledge of state nutritional and sanitary guidelines applicable to school food service program.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Mastery of use office information systems, paper and electronic, as well as standard office equipment and software, including word processing and spreadsheets, as well as the ability to train others.
  • Ability to independent plan, organize, and carry out work assignments, and to plan and direct the work of assigned staff or students.
  • Ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with individuals and groups of all ages, which requires use of conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrate computer and accounting skills consistent with the level of responsibility for management of a large, complex, institutional food program.
  • Licensed for institutional food service work in Oregon.
  • Ability to implement the district's evaluation process and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and implement the school/program's student discipline policy and to manage student behavior effectively outside a classroom setting.
  • Ability to effectively perform multiple, simultaneous tasks with numerous interruptions.
  • Ability to travel among district facilities as needed; if driving, the ability to meet district driving standards.
  • Standard First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within two months of hire, may be required.
  • Ability to understand and carry out the district emergency response plan.
